Freedom Summer By Deborah Wiles

"John Henry is my best best friend. He is the best swimmer I know, we would swim in the town pool together, but he's not allowed" In the book Freedom Summer by Deborah Wiles  the story of a friendship between a white and black boy is told.  Set during the 1960's, racial discrimination was still in motion, however, John Henry and Joe went against the status quo and became best friends. Deborah Wiles beautifully illustrated that you as an individual can be friends with anybody.
