Wonder by R.J. Palacio clearly demonstrates that a friend is not someone who is popular, it is someone who is loyal to any individual no matter their beliefs/looks. In the beginning of this fabulous book, a great friend of Auggie's named Summer, ignored the popular group who weren't nice to her, and joined Auggie in the dining room to realize how humorous and kind he was. Clearly Summer shows empathy for Auggie and is very thoughtful, and her actions are enforced on her empathy for Auggie.

Finding Parallelism Across Stories
Suporting Characters
In the book, Freedom Summer written by Deborah Wiles, the story of a friendship between a black and white boy is told. Written in the perspective of the white boy, Joe, his friend John Henry could arguably be a supporting character visa-versa. Joe really wants to know what it would be like to be John Henry, and shows empathy throughout the story for John Henry. Also Joe could be a supporting character, John Henry admires how the simple actions of Joe walking into a grocery store being kicked out, would be such a blessing.

The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson
The Other Side
"Someday somebody's going to come along and knock this old fence down," Annie said.
And I nodded. "Yeah," I said. "Someday." Set during the Civil Rights Movement, the story The Other Side clearly illustrated the acceptance of friendship between black and white children. In this story, there was a young white and a young black girl, they were living next door to each other, only with a fence to separate them. Everyday the young girls would stare at each other through the fence, and one day they had the courage to talk to each other. The mother and the other children just stared, didn't say anything or do anything, but eventually the other children started to join in. The children mixed well together, despite they weren't supposed to mix. The fence symbolized a chance for freedom and friendship, the fence was the law, what they weren't allowed to cross. The fence was a borderline. This story clearly used backstory, and real events from history. Part of the backstory was how individuals started to question the status quo after the communities were divided by race boundaries. The story also included weather changes as the mood changed, and eventually when the sun was bright and they all sat on the fence and were happy even though the law was still the same. This book is related to

Freedom Summer By Deborah Wiles
"John Henry is my best best friend. He is the best swimmer I know, we would swim in the town pool together, but he's not allowed" In the book Freedom Summer by Deborah Wiles the story of a friendship between a white and black boy is told. Set during the 1960's, racial discrimination was still in motion, however, John Henry and Joe went against the status quo and became best friends. Deborah Wiles beautifully illustrated that you as an individual can be friends with anybody.

Everything Stops For Tea, a song written in 1972, is written to make people cheerful in the time of war. As Tea is very hard to get during war, the song uses multiple reasons of why when given the pleasure of having tea, there is no way to act miserable. The song uses positive propaganda to make people feel like war is not happening even though it is. Soldiers would benefit from this song in the time of war because it has a very cheerful and up beat tune, and is focused on making people think of the brightest side of life and not the horrors of war.

In the Fall Of Singapore video, our team acknowledged that we were learning mainly about what happened in Singapore over the 20th century. Some scenes mentioned include:
World War II: In 1942, World War ll took over Singapore, dropping bombs all over Singapore, hiding them and setting them off in certain places. The War had expanded around half the world. It spread in China, Philippines, etc. When the French gave up to the war, the Japanese rejoiced and had stopped the War. This video contained a lot of interviews with old people who had been in the war before. This video wanted to tell the people that were watching this video that the war was really dangerous and the people who were in it but survived and interviews with them. This is the video that talked about world war ll and how people had survived or died in it.
When the British underestimated the Japanese, they were attacked brutally. This shows that the Japanese is different in the inside of their country then the outside fighting. The documentary is set in a timeline.
This is mostly about how the Japanese attacked Singapore and how the French gave up with the fight. We think that the French gave up the fight for peace. Also probably because a lot of people are dying including families that doesn’t have anything to do with the war. We wonder if the Japanese or the British will still attack the French even though they gave up.

USSR= Soviet Union
USSR, which is also known as Russia, has the largest total of deaths in WWII. The number of deaths are 27 million total which makes me wonder that USSR had a very weak army or this happened because of the Nazi's shooting citizens and taking their clothes away for them to freeze to death.

Dialogue Practice
1. "I would like to go the beach this weekend," she told him as they left the apartment.
2. "I don't want any stupid cake," says the guy who goes to Europe and the Middle East. "Where's the champagne?" he says and laughs.
3. "That is," Wesley said,"that neither you nor me is her boy".
4. "Have you read Hills Like White Elephants yet?" he asked her.

5. "Why can't we talk to any of the people outside?" Ellen stuttered. Ellen unaware of the fact that soldiers were not only in Copenhagen, their home town.
"Soldiers are spread all around Denmark, they are specifically hunting down Jews. To be safe, we must not talk to any of my brother's friends, nor anybody else you see. The world is dangerous and I must protect the both of you. I could not lose another daughter." Ann Marie's mother whispered. She wanted to protect the girls, they were both her daughters wherever they are.
"Can I talk to the cat?" Christie teased. "Can I talk to my doll?" Christie was unaware of the danger Ellen was in, and she would tell the soldier everything she knew because she had no knowledge of why the soldiers rome the streets.
