Love and Care for Your Laptop

Just before the start of the school year, I had a look at the middle school website to see if we were doing anything out of the ordinary in sixth grade. To my surprise, I found out that we were going to be doing bootcamp, I was astonished! Bootcamp? Are we going to be doing push ups and marathon running? I thought. Then, when I got to school on the first day I found out it was training to look after the computer the school was giving every sixth grade student to use at school and at home. A very excited feeling was built up inside me, and butterflies flew around in my stomach, I couldn’t believe I was getting a school laptop. I mean, I have a laptop at home, but, to be given the responsibility of bringing it to and from school everyday, and having to look after it feels like teachers have trust in you as an individual.

Here's how to hold it!

During BootCamp I learnt many new tactics about caring for my laptop and where to use it. For example, I must not use my laptop in places like the cafeteria, the hallways, Middle School foyer, and outside on very hot humid days. To elaborate on that, I have learnt that humidity can make the keyboard on a laptop ruin, and that heat is bad for laptops. Additionally, I have learnt that I should always have my laptop in it's case, and how to hold it. Another key point I have learnt during laptop boot camp is to never leave drinks near computers because even one drop of liquid on the keyboard of a macbook air, and no matter who owns the laptop, even the president would be left with a broken computer that can not be repaired. Any crumbs on the keyboard will go under the keys, and the computer system will be messed up. I also learnt to never share any personal information, and think before you post. Students must think about the SAS core values, respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, and compassion. Students must also make copyright considerations, because it would be rude to take someone else's photo without permission, and not giving credits.

Never have any of these items near your laptop!!

To conclude, I would like to thank all the teachers, teacher aids, and the school for putting so much effort into running the boot camp, providing our laptops, and organizing the new school year. The experience of laptop boot camp has been great, and now I know so many things I never knew before about laptops, and technology in general.
